Trump appoints former State Dept. spokeswoman Ortagus as deputy Mideast envoy.
Trump: Morgan took three years to learn her lesson
Trump named Ortagus as Deputy Special Presidential Envoy for Middle East Peace on Truth Social.
On Friday afternoon, Trump announced that Ortagus will work under Steven Witkoff, the New York real estate tycoon chosen as the Middle East envoy in November.
""I hope Morgan has learned her lesson after three years of fighting me, even though these situations often don't work out. She has strong Republican support, and I'm doing this for them, not for myself. Let's see what happens," Trump wrote in the post."
He added she will "hopefully" be an asset to Witkoff.
""I anticipate achieving great outcomes in a region that is currently facing turmoil," Trump stated."
Ortagus, a U.S. Navy Reserve intelligence officer, served as spokesperson at the Department of State from 2019 to 2021 and was a member of Trump's Abraham Accords team.
She was a financial intelligence analyst at the Department of the Treasury and served as Deputy U.S. Treasury Attaché to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 2010 to 2011.
She is the founder of Polaris National Security and the host of "The Morgan Ortagus Show" on Sirius XM.
