As President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance prepare to assume office, Vance resigned his U.S. Senate seat.

Since early 2023, Vance has been serving in the Senate, but he resigned approximately two years into his six-year term.

Vance announced his resignation as a United States Senator from Ohio in a letter to Gov. DeWine, which is currently being circulated online.

Vance stated that it was an immense honor and privilege to represent the people of Ohio in the Senate for the past two years as he prepares to take on the role of Vice President of the United States.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, expressed his regret in a post on X about losing Vance as a Senate colleague.

"Over the past two years, he has become a cherished friend and reliable confidant, according to Lee. However, the Senate's loss is also the Senate's gain, as he is set to assume the role of Senate president—a position that falls to the vice president."

Vance reciprocated, noting that the "Feeling is mutual!"

In the 2024 presidential election, Trump and Vance defeated the Democratic ticket and will assume office on Jan. 20.

Vance expressed his gratitude to the people of Ohio for allowing him to represent them in the US Senate. He pledged to never forget his roots and has lived up to that promise throughout his time in office.

President Trump has been given a clear mandate by the American people to prioritize America's interests, both domestically and internationally. I will do my best to assist him in implementing his agenda. Together, we will work towards making America stronger, safer, and more prosperous than ever before.
