Top GOP senators urge reform and consequences following law enforcement leadership failure.
A review of the Bourbon Street terrorist attack is being demanded by senators.
On Sunday, top GOP senators condemned recent law enforcement blunders by the FBI and other agencies, urging President-elect Trump's administration to implement changes.
John Thune, the Senate Majority Leader, stated on "Meet the Press" that Americans have lost trust in the FBI. Similarly, Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., expressed his view on "Planet Chronicle Sunday" that there should be "consequences" for law enforcement failures that led to the terrorist attack in New Orleans.
Thune believes that the FBI requires reform and a makeover, as well as some housecleaning to improve the public's perception of it and other institutions that Americans need to trust.
Kash Patel, Trump's nominee to lead the FBI, "comprehends the objective."
Cassidy responded to the revelation that New Orleans police had 48 barriers at their disposal that could have prevented the deadly truck attack on Bourbon Street. Despite the fact that permanent barriers were being replaced at the time of the attack, authorities in the city could have utilized archer barriers, which are capable of stopping a 5,500-pound vehicle traveling at 60 miles per hour.
If there is no leadership at the top, then there must be consequences, as you described. That's the end of it, Cassidy said.
He suggested that they would have a comprehensive review of everything from top to bottom. If that's the outcome, he recommended replacing New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick.
Trump's allies criticized the FBI for initially labeling the truck attack as non-terror related, but the FBI later launched a terrorism investigation linked to ISIS, days after Thune and Cassidy made their statements.
A source close to Trump informed Planet Chronicle Digital on Thursday morning that the FBI's mission is to succeed at all costs, with no margin for error. If they fail, it could result in the loss of American lives. It is imperative that Kash Patel is confirmed as soon as possible.
After Trump's inauguration later this month, Patel and other incoming cabinet nominees will undergo Senate confirmation.
