The wife of the detained American in Afghanistan had a meeting with Trump's national security adviser.
Anna Corbett is extremely encouraged and the contrast of her experience is just mind-blowing right now.
Over the weekend, the wife of a man who has been wrongfully detained in Afghanistan for years made encouraging advancements in her efforts to secure his release.
Anna Corbett met with incoming National Security Advisor Michael Waltz for over an hour after traveling to Mar-a-Lago without any assurance that anyone from President-elect Donald Trump's team would be present. Following the meeting, she received a phone call from President Biden.
According to Corbett, who spoke to Planet Chronicle on Monday morning, President Trump is aware of our family's situation and is deeply concerned about us.
On Sunday, Corbett met with Waltz for over an hour at her hotel.
"My experience is so different from what I expected, and I am thrilled."
Corbett stated that she "absolutely believes" the Trump administration will return her husband, but "the specifics are uncertain."
On Friday, Corbett spoke with Planet Chronicle Digital while on a last-minute flight to Mar-a-Lago to request a meeting with Trump.
She hadn't heard from Biden in two and a half years since her husband was detained until this weekend.
Biden was described as "very kind" and "empathetic" by her to Planet Chronicle, but the call was "absolutely devastating" because it became clear he wouldn't bring Ryan Corbett home during his final days in office.
She said that she heard him say he wouldn't be bringing Ryan home.
Anna Corbett stated that since Ryan Corbett was detained two and a half years ago, he "continues to miss milestones." One of their three kids recently shot his first buck while hunting, another was elected prom queen and another graduated from high school.
Ryan Corbett ran a business in Afghanistan before the Taliban seized control in 2021.
Anna Corbett stated that although we love the people in Afghanistan, we had to evacuate when the Taliban took over. However, Ryan kept his business open, which is why he returned to the country.
Ryan Corbett and his German business partner were detained by the Taliban in August 2022 while training new hires for their consulting and lending business in Afghanistan. Since then, Anna Corbett has had short calls with him every two weeks, and his condition in prison has continued to deteriorate.
On Sunday, the White House confirmed that Biden had spoken with the families of Corbett, Glezmann, and Habibi, all of whom have been unjustly held by the Taliban in Afghanistan since 2022.
The White House announced that Biden has successfully rescued more than 75 Americans who were wrongfully detained overseas.
President Biden and his team have been working tirelessly to secure the release of American hostages and detainees abroad, collaborating with key allies, and will continue to do so until the end of his term, as stated.
Last week, reports emerged that the Biden administration was in talks with the Taliban to trade three American citizens detained in Afghanistan for a Guantanamo Bay prisoner who was said to have been a close friend of Usama bin Laden.
The Taliban official stated to The Guardian that the deal appeared to have stalled and the group would prefer to wait until the Trump administration arrived to negotiate.
Last week, Trump expressed to Peter Doocy of Planet Chronicle that he would entertain the idea of a prisoner swap, but appeared uncertain.
"Trump stated on Thursday that he hasn't examined it yet and will review it tomorrow. He added that he hasn't been in favor of the trade, but he'll make an announcement about it tomorrow."
Although the U.S. has imposed detentions, it remains the largest financial backer of Afghanistan, having given the country approximately $3 billion since the 2021 withdrawal.
Since at least July 2024, talks have been ongoing to exchange suspected senior al Qaeda aide Muhammad Rahim al Afghani for U.S. citizens Ryan Corbett, George Glezmann, and Mahmoud Habibi, who were detained in Afghanistan in 2022.
Since 2008, the Taliban has been advocating for the release of Rahim, a Guantánamo Bay detainee, due to the Pentagon's belief that he was closely associated with bin Laden.
In November 2023, the Guantánamo Bay prison review board kept Rahim in custody due to his work with senior al Qaeda members and his involvement in attacks on U.S. and allied forces in Afghanistan.
