The White House hints at increased climate funding before President Biden departs.
On January 20th, Trump will assume the role of President.
The Biden administration aims to quickly allocate climate funds to support the president's green energy plan before President-elect Trump takes office in January.
The White House announced that Jeff Zients, White House Chief of Staff, stated in a memo that the administration plans to "maximize its efforts" and "complete as much as possible" for the American people in the remaining weeks of President Joe Biden's term.
The Biden administration plans to allocate as much funding as possible before the end of the term, utilizing unused funds from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to finance climate-related projects.
The White House announced that Americans can anticipate further action on IRA funding for the Democrats' climate bill.
Trump has proposed to "repeal" the IRA, a law he has characterized as a "historic swindle."
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., advised caution when it comes to reworking the climate bill, stating that "you've got to use a scalpel and not a sledgehammer" on the legislation.
It's unlikely that the IRA would be completely overturned since most of the funds have already been awarded.
The White House spokesperson cautioned against Republicans and the incoming administration attempting to reverse Biden's plans.
"According to Bates, repealing President Biden's signature laws would result in a historic redistribution of wealth from working Americans to Big Pharma and China. In a memo obtained by NBC News, Bates stated that projects under the IRA have already been locked-in, despite potential pushback."
Bates also suggested that Republican districts are benefiting from the IRA.
"The Inflation Reduction Act has resulted in the creation of over 330,000 clean energy jobs, with a disproportionate number of jobs being created in districts represented by Republicans. Additionally, the act has saved more than 3.4 million Americans $8.4 million on clean energy upgrades to their homes and over 300,000 Americans have saved over $2 billion upfront on electric vehicle purchases."
