The Texas Border Patrol has no plans to remove the razor wire that was set up, despite a disagreement with the Biden administration.
The federal government and Texas are at odds over border security measures.
The CBP official stated that there are no plans to remove the razor wire installed by Texas on the southern border, emphasizing the strong relationship with the state despite the ongoing legal dispute between the state and the administration.
Currently, Texas is engaged in a multifaceted legal battle with the federal government over the safety of the Texas-Mexico border. The federal government has threatened legal action against Texas' recent confiscation of Shelby Park near Eagle Pass, while ongoing lawsuits challenge the administration's removal of razor wire erected by Texas and the installation of buoys in the Rio Grande. Texas asserts that it has the right to "self-defense" against what it characterizes as a migrant "invasion."
On Monday, the Supreme Court granted an emergency appeal to allow border agents to continue cutting wire set up by Texas, despite a lower court's previous blocking of such moves. Texas has continued to strengthen its border security measures and has indicated that it will not comply with the administration's demands for it to vacate the Shelby Park area.
On Thursday, Abbott stated that the unprecedented invasion resulting from President Biden's actions must be defended against.
The federal enforcement of immigration law is being impeded by Texas, according to the Biden administration.
"The DHS spokesperson stated that the enforcement of immigration law is a federal responsibility. However, the State of Texas has made it more difficult for frontline personnel to apply consequences under the law, which has hindered their ability to reduce irregular migration. The DHS emphasized that they can enforce their laws safely, humanely, and in an orderly way."
While tensions between Texas and the federal government continue to rise, a senior CBP official has stated that the relationship between Texas and Border Patrol officials on the ground remains strong.
"Despite the ongoing legal battle, the bond between Border Patrol, Texas DPS, and TMD remains unwavering. Our primary objective is to safeguard the nation and its citizens. On the field, we collaborate closely with these invaluable allies in achieving this goal."
"In summary, Border Patrol does not intend to remove the c-wire infrastructure set up by Texas on the border. We maintain our current stance. In the event of an emergency, we will proceed as necessary. When this occurs, we will collaborate with Texas DPS and TMD."
The Border Patrol union rejected the notion that its agents could arrest Texas National Guard members, stating in a lengthy statement that the idea was not supported.
The National Border Patrol Council stated on X, formerly known as Twitter, that TX NG and rank-and-file BP agents work together and respect each other's jobs. If TX NG members have LAWFUL orders, they must carry them out.
"The statement clarifies that there is no conflict between rank-and-file BP agents and the Texas National Guard, Governor Abbott, or Department of Public Safety, despite what may be reported in the media."
