The nation awaits President Biden's farewell address.
In his farewell letter to the nation, Biden stated that we are now stronger, more prosperous, and more secure.
Biden will give his final speech to the country on Wednesday evening, marking the end of his four-year term as president.
On Wednesday, Biden published a farewell letter to the country before delivering his address from the Oval Office at 8 p.m. ET.
"Four years ago, we faced a winter of both danger and opportunity. We were grappling with the worst pandemic in a century, the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and the worst assault on our democracy since the Civil War," Biden stated.
"Despite our differences, we united as Americans and endured the hardship. As a result, we are now stronger, more prosperous, and more secure."
On January 20th, President-elect Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States, marking the end of Biden's presidency.
Biden has been in public office for over 50 years, making a significant impact on the national scene in 1972, during President Richard Nixon's landslide re-election year, when he defeated a Republican incumbent in a surprising Senate race in Delaware at the young age of 29.
"I ran for president because I believed that the very nature of who we are was at stake. That's still the case," he added in his farewell letter.
"The idea that America is stronger than any army and larger than any ocean is the most powerful in history. This idea, that we are all created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, has never been fully realized, but it has never been abandoned. I believe the American people will not abandon this sacred idea now."
Biden had a 36-year career in the U.S. Senate, one of the longest in the chamber's history, before joining Obama's ticket in the 2008 election and serving as vice president for eight years.
In the 2020 election, the 46th president defeated Trump, but was set to face him again in the 2022 election. However, concerns about his mental acuity caused him to drop out of the race. Vice President Kamala Harris was quickly endorsed by Biden and other high-profile Democrats to become the party's presidential nominee. Despite this, she lost the election as Trump swept all seven battleground states.
Biden has consistently criticized Trump, labeling him a "danger to the country," yet pledged to ensure a smooth transition of power and confirmed that he will attend Trump's inauguration.
On Monday, Biden gave a farewell address at the State Department that focused on foreign policy before his final address to America.
In his final foreign policy speech on Monday, Biden stated that the United States is now leading the global competition, a significant improvement from four years ago.
He stated that America's alliances are stronger, while its adversaries and competitors are weaker, making the country stronger.
