The mayor of a major blue city remains silent after an illegal immigrant commits a crime at a shelter.
The liberal governor of Massachusetts has also expressed outrage over the incident.
An illegal immigrant was caught using a taxpayer-funded migrant shelter in the Boston suburbs for criminal activity, including storing a weapon and nearly $1 million worth of drugs. Despite this, Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu remains silent.
Despite being located near Downtown Boston, the migrant shelter did not receive a response from Wu when Planet Chronicle Digital repeatedly requested comment.
A 28-year-old man from the Dominican Republic, who is an illegal immigrant, is being charged with federal crimes for possessing an AR-15 and ammunition, as well as over 400 grams of fentanyl with the intent to distribute, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts.
According to Boston 25 News, Sanchez was also found with cocaine worth at least $750,000. He is currently being held in state custody.
At the Quality Inn Hotel in Revere, Massachusetts, a government-funded shelter for migrants, Sanchez kept his weapon and drugs in his room.
Both Boston and Massachusetts have sanctuary policies, and both Mayor Wu and Governor Maure Healey have pledged to oppose President-elect Trump's plan to tighten illegal immigration.
Healey was furious about the incident, stating, "It's unacceptable that this person exploited our shelter system for criminal purposes."
An inspection of all shelters, including the Quality Inn Hotel in Revere, and a comprehensive review of the state's shelter intake processes were ordered by Healey.
""Our federal immigration system is broken, and the urgent need for Congress and the White House to act on a border security bill cannot be overstated. The people of Massachusetts cannot bear the consequences of federal inaction any longer," said Healey."
Despite Wu's claim that Boston's sanctuary policies enhance safety, she has not commented on Sanchez's arrest. Although Planet Chronicle Digital contacted Wu's office, neither she nor her office have responded to the arrest.
Wu has maintained Boston's sanctuary city status since Trump's 2024 electoral victory, stating that city officials and police would not cooperate with federal authorities in deportations.
In the Boston area and across Massachusetts, there has been a recent increase in the number of illegal immigrants being arrested for sex crimes, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In November, Tom Homan, Trump's incoming border czar, criticized Wu for opposing the administration's immigration policy, stating that "she's not very smart" in an interview with Newsmax.
"Protecting public safety is a top priority for President Trump," said Homan. "All mayors and governors share this responsibility to keep their communities safe."
