The House GOP bill could result in the death penalty for pedophiles: "Permanently removed from society"
President-elect Donald Trump supports Anna Paulina Luna's initiative.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., is introducing legislation that could result in the death penalty for child sexual predators.
Raping or molesting someone is equivalent to murdering their soul, and the effects of such actions can be long-lasting. People who have experienced such trauma may never fully recover. Luna, a prominent [female House Democrat], has spoken openly about her own experience with child molestation and the impact it had on her life.
On Tuesday, two out of three bills being presented in the 119th Congress will mandate sentences of death or life imprisonment for individuals accused of various crimes involving children.
A bill proposes that guilty verdicts of rape and sexual abuse against adults should result in a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years to life in prison.
Luna discussed the topic with President-elect Trump over the weekend, and he expressed enthusiasm for the idea, according to Luna.
Luna stated that she believed he was completely supportive of anything in this sector.
Over the weekend at Mar-a-Lago, Trump met with several members of the House Freedom Caucus, including the Florida congresswoman.
She mentioned that they talked about Trump possibly issuing an executive order imposing the death penalty for pedophilia-related offenses, but she believed it would be unfeasible to achieve that way.
She stated that he would sign an executive order, but it must go through Congress first, meaning it would have to reach his desk in that manner.
In the previous Congress, Luna presented legislation, but it did not gain much support and did not receive a vote in the House.
She argued that child predators "cannot be rehabilitated," and suggested that the death penalty aspect could have put some people off of an issue that otherwise could get wide bipartisan support.
To continue pushing forward in a moral society, it is necessary to permanently remove predators like this from the streets, as Luna stated.
