The Hegseth hearing roasted the senator's 'lies and stupidity' on social media, resulting in a 'clown show'.
One critic criticized Hawaii Democrat Mazie Hirono for her line of questioning, stating that it was unbecoming of her position as a United States Senator.
The Democratic senator is facing criticism from social media users over his claim that Pete Hegseth would lead a military invasion of Greenland if nominated as Secretary of Defense.
On Tuesday, the Senate Armed Services Committee held a confirmation hearing for Trump's defense pick, Hegseth. During the hearing, Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii questioned Hegseth about his views on invading Greenland and taking over the Panama Canal. Her questions sparked a heated debate on social media.
Hegseth replied to the question by stating that Trump never reveals his plans strategically and he would never publicly declare one way or another to give direction to the president's orders.
Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., wrote on X that Hirono was acting as judge, jury, and executioner based on falsehoods and foolishness.
Brigette Gabriel, ACT for America founder and chairman, stated that Mazie Hirono is likely the least intelligent member of Congress.
"Gabriel stated on X that this line of questioning was not befitting of her status as a US Senator. He added, "I support Pete Hegseth.""
In the hearing, Hirono stated that President-elect Trump instructed guards to shoot protesters in the legs during a demonstration at Lafayette Square in Washington D.C. in 2020, and questioned Hegseth about whether he would follow such an order.
"During the events in Lafayette Square, I was a member of the Washington, D.C. National Guard unit that held a riot shield to protect my country. I witnessed 50 Secret Service agents getting injured by riot agents."
Hirono questioned Hegseth about accusations of sexual misconduct and allegations that he consumed alcohol while working - claims he has consistently rejected.
Florida's Voice Assistant News Director Eric Daughtery wrote about a "clown show."
Greg Price wrote that Mazie Hirono used discredited anonymous sources from NBC to claim that Pete Hegseth was frequently drunk at work.
