The growing number of illegal Chinese immigrants is becoming a major concern for US national security.
Since October, there have been a total of 22,233 encounters.
The number of Chinese nationals entering the U.S. illegally has increased dramatically in recent years, exacerbating national security concerns that were reignited last week when a Chinese immigrant was detained at a Marine base.
This fiscal year, 22,233 Chinese nationals have crossed the northern and southern border illegally, surpassing last year's total of 24,125.
The number of Chinese nationals apprehended by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) increased significantly from 342 in FY 2021 to 1,987 in FY 2022.
In a single day, 182 Chinese nationals were detained in the San Diego Sector.
The CCP has raised concerns among lawmakers about the migrants' potential ties.
Last year, Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., and other lawmakers stated that there are many verified cases of Chinese nationals, under the orders of the CCP, committing espionage and stealing military and economic secrets.
The Department of Homeland Security has warned that China is likely to use predatory economic practices, including espionage and market manipulation, against the U.S., as noted by the Biden administration.
A Chinese illegal immigrant was detained in California last week after entering a Marine Corps base without permission and disregarding orders to depart. The individual tried to gain access to the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms without a valid ID, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Marine Corps' Training and Education Command.
The individual, despite being instructed to leave the installation by security personnel, entered the area without permission. The spokesperson stated that military law enforcement were immediately notified and the individual was detained.
Those who enter the U.S. illegally will face consequences, as emphasized by CBP.
"The DHS is enforcing US immigration laws, expanding legal pathways while imposing severe consequences on those who cross the border unlawfully. According to the agency, individuals and families without a legal basis to remain in the US are subject to removal under Title 8 authorities and face a five-year bar on reapplying for admission and potential criminal prosecution if they re-enter without authorization."
CBP is utilizing all available resources and partnerships to efficiently vet and process migrants in accordance with the law.
Other migrants from China have stated that their primary objective is to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
"One migrant told Fox last month that their English is not great and they don't know anyone in the US. However, they aspire to have a good life in the future and want their children to receive a good education. They aim to establish themselves in the US as soon as possible."
