The GOP primary in a swing state has ended, and now voters will determine who will challenge the tough Democrat incumbent.
In November, incumbent Democrat Senator Jacky Rosen will face either Sam Brown or Jeff Gunter in a battle for Nevada's Senate seat.
The Republican primary in a crucial swing state is concluding, with voters casting their ballots on Tuesday to decide which candidate will challenge a predicted formidable Democrat opponent.
In the weeks leading up to the Nevada primary, former U.S. Army Capt. Sam Brown and former President Trump official Dr. Jeffrey Gunter engaged in a heated battle for the title of the "true America First" candidate in the race.
Both Brown, an Afghanistan war veteran who underwent a catastrophic injury while deployed in 2008, and another individual publicly and privately fought for former President Trump's endorsement. In the end, Brown won the battle with a last minute weigh-in by the presumptive Republican presidential nominee on Sunday.
Gunter believes that his "MAGA" messaging and his service as Trump's ambassador to Iceland will help him win a surprise, come-from-behind victory in his campaign.
The task of defeating Democrat Sen. Jacky Rosen and her well-funded campaign, which aims to maintain the blue vote in Nevada, will be challenging for the Republican winner in a year when the GOP is expected to perform well nationally.
Both Gunter and Brown have released their own internal polls, claiming they lead in the race, despite a lack of external polling data.
Gunter has largely funded his own campaign, while Brown has had the backing of national Republicans who see him as the best chance to flip the seat. This backing seems to have been what ultimately pulled Trump to his corner, making him the widely viewed favorite to win the race.
Nevada's popular Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo, who is known for staying out of the spotlight and rarely weighing in on national issues, also supports Brown.
Gunter has secured endorsements from high-profile Republicans, including Reps. Matt Gaetz and Paul Gosar, as well as former Republican Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin.
In the crowded primary field, Brown and Gunter are up against former state Rep. Jim Marchant and veteran Air Force pilot Tony Grady. On the other hand, Rosen has no significant opposition in her primary.
The Nevada Senate race is considered a prime chance for Republicans to gain control, alongside West Virginia, Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maryland, and Arizona.
Polls in Nevada are open from 7:00 a.m. PT to 7:00 p.m. PT.
