On Jan. 6, the decision to cut Duncan's ties to the GOP after years of accusations of disloyalty was approved unanimously and finalized.

Duncan proposed in a post on X that the resolution was not a productive use of the party's time.
"JoshMcKoon called out the Georgia GOP chair for wasting time on mass deportations, world peace, and global tariffs instead of celebrating a victory. He urged them to take a victory lap instead of lighting another dumpster fire," he wrote.
Duncan is prohibited from accessing any property owned or rented by the Georgia Republican Party and from participating in any events organized by or under the authority of the Georgia Republican Party, as per the resolution.
The Georgia GOP stated that Duncan is ineligible to run as a candidate for the Georgia Republican Party. Duncan publicly endorsed President Biden during the 2024 presidential race, but later criticized him for dropping out and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, which he saw as a breach of his loyalty to the GOP.
Previously, Josh McKoon, chair of the Georgia Republican Party, requested that Duncan cease utilizing his Republican affiliation in public and media presentations.
