The first meeting of the House DOGE Caucus was preceded by a top Republican discussing the "true purpose" behind its mission.
The first meeting of the DOGE Caucus takes place on Tuesday.
The co-chair of the House of Representatives’ Congressional DOGE Caucus stated that there is "a genuine drive" to achieve its objective of reducing the federal deficit.
Rep. Blake Moore, R-Utah, has been appointed as the House GOP Conference vice chair and is the No. 6 House Republican. He has recently joined Reps. Aaron Bean, R-Fla., and Pete Sessions, R-Texas, in leading the caucus.
The advisory panel, led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, is called DOGE, which stands for Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency and is also the acronym for the Department of Government Efficiency.
The caucus's initial meeting is scheduled for Tuesday. Moore stated that he hopes they can establish a framework for their goals and achieve some initial "easy wins" to set the stage for further progress.
He did not provide specifics on the nature of those victories, but proposed that one of the caucus' primary objectives would be to provide recommendations to Musk and Ramaswamy on how to streamline the federal government.
Moore stated that we have individuals with excellent ideas from different committees on areas where we can improve efficiency, and we need to document these suggestions and eventually present recommendations.
As a member of House leadership, the Utah Republican aims to serve as a bridge between his caucus and other congressional leaders.
"Moore stated that he became a co-chair of the conference in search of another opportunity to contribute to its service. He emphasized that there had been a lot of bipartisan work done on this topic for many years prior to the conference. He believed that the conference was a catalyst for doing more work on this issue. Moore expressed his excitement about being part of the leadership team."
He remarked that the level of excitement for DOGE was unprecedented among government initiatives.
The American people are motivated by this, and it has galvanized them. For instance, I am the chair and co-chair of the Ski and Snowboard caucus. Utah, with its best skiing and greatest snow on earth, does not receive the attention it deserves.
"I became a co-chair of the DOGE Caucus and there was widespread interest in this from both media and constituents. We must honor that."
Moore argued that DOGE's internet meme-inspired branding would help make Americans enthusiastic about the mission, rather than dismissing concerns that it might make people take it less seriously.
In the 2010s, "Doge" was an internet meme featuring a Shiba Inu and often included broken English phrases attributed to the dog's internal monologue.
Musk has openly expressed his fondness for the meme and even gave it a name, "Department of Government Efficiency," while referencing it on X, previously Twitter, before Trump turned it into a reality. Additionally, he has endorsed a cryptocurrency with the same name.
"Moore stated, "I've never witnessed such enthusiasm and involvement from my constituents. The fact that it's the Doge has made it more relatable, and I believe it's a positive thing. It's amusing and highlights the irony of the situation.""
"To create a positive impact, you must utilize whatever can capture people's attention for good purposes."
