On Wednesday, the EPA approved two waivers under the Clean Air Act, allowing California to phase out gas cars in the state as part of President Biden's final push to transition the auto industry towards green energy.
California's request to mandate that 35% of new cars and light-duty trucks sales be zero emissions by 2026 and achieve 90% below current emissions by 2027 has been granted.
California officials can mandate that all new car sales be zero-emission within the decade, which is the strictest EV mandate in the country.
President-elect Donald Trump may revoke the waivers for federal EV requirements and any waiver issued for California by the Biden administration, potentially ending the waivers soon.
Incoming Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that after imposing his job-killing electric vehicle mandate at the federal level, Crooked Joe Biden is preparing to destroy the remaining U.S. auto-industry by approving California's waiver request banning the sale of all gasoline-powered automobiles during the campaign.
The EPA Administrator, Michael Regan, stated that the waivers will safeguard California residents from hazardous air pollution emanating from mobile sources such as automobiles and trucks.
Chet Thompson, CEO and President of American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, deemed the mandate as "illegal."
"The Biden-Harris EPA has contradicted campaign promises that they would never dictate the types of cars Americans can drive by approving California's ban on new gas and hybrid vehicle sales. This decision will negatively impact consumers, including those not residing in California, by limiting their ability to purchase new gas cars in their respective states and increasing vehicle and transportation costs."
