The Black Lives Matter organization has accused the Democratic Party of being hypocrites for installing Kamala Harris as Vice President without a public voting process.
Black Lives Matter clarifies that they do not support a dictatorship and that delegates are not oligarchs.
The Black Lives Matter organization is opposing the selection of Vice President Kamala Harris as the presumptive Democratic nominee and is urging the Democratic National Convention to establish a system that enables the public to have a say in the nomination process, rather than simply having party delegates make the decision.
The group, which gained prominence in 2020 for organizing nationwide protests following the killing of George Floyd, stated that a 24-hour process of discussing with party leaders is not democratic and should not be something Democrats should be proud of.
Despite facing internal party pressure to withdraw from the presidential race following a poor debate performance last month, President Joe Biden remained determined to continue his campaign and ultimately win the election.
Biden abruptly dropped out of the race and nominated Harris to lead the top of the ticket. Overnight, the Democratic Party coalesced around her, winning enough delegate support to secure the nomination at the DNC convention in August.
The Democrat-aligned BLM group is protesting the play.
The group stated that the modern Democratic Party would become a party of hypocrites if Kamala Harris were installed as the Democratic nominee and an unknown vice president without any public voting process.
"The DNC should immediately host a virtual snap primary across the country before the August convention, as demanded by Black Lives Matter."
The Rules Committee should establish a procedure that enables public involvement in the nomination process, rather than solely relying on party delegates. The current political climate is unique, with President Biden's departure marking a first-of-its-kind occurrence. This situation demands prompt action to safeguard the sanctity of our democracy and the perspectives of Black voters.
The Democratic Party elites and billionaire donors are trying to influence Black voters by choosing Kamala Harris and an unidentified vice president as the new Democratic ticket without a public primary vote, according to the group.
The disregard for democratic principles in this manner is unacceptable. Although a Harris presidency could be historic, the process to achieve it must adhere to true democratic values.
"Since Kamala Harris has taken over Joe Biden's position, we lack knowledge about her stance on the issues, and we are also unaware of her potential vice president's record because we don't know who it is yet."
Kamala Harris' qualifications and capabilities are not being questioned by BLM leader Shalomyah Bowers, who stated, "This is not an attack on Black women, and right now we aren't questioning Kamala's qualifications or capabilities. This is about the nominating process."
Bowers stated that those who value democratic principles cannot support installing Kamala Harris and an unidentified vice president as the Democratic nominee without any evidence of a popular process.
Instead of relying on party elites and delegates, it is crucial to hear from communities across the country about their belief in the democratic ticket. Anything less is a disregard for the seriousness of the quest for democracy.
