The Biden migrant parole program is criticized by Republicans as being "plagued with fraud."
According to Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt, the left's solution to illegal immigration is to legalize it.
On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee Republicans questioned Ur Jaddou, head of the USCIS, about her leadership and the Biden administration's immigration policies, accusing them of allowing mass illegal immigration and running a fraudulent humanitarian parole program.
USCIS is a federal agency meant to oversee lawful immigration into the U.S.
Jaddou received criticism from Texas Rep. Troy Nehls, who stated, "You totally blew it."
The American people are fed up and you should all be fired. You will be shortly because the American people said, "We won't tolerate this anymore."
Jaddou was grilled by Rep. Tom McClintock, head of the Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, who stated: "The decline in real wages for working families under this administration can be attributed to the agency we are examining today."
"Our subcommittee has observed that in numerous instances, credible fear interviews are not conducted before undocumented migrants are released into the country after entering illegally. Can you provide an explanation for this?"
Jaddou tried to clarify that USCIS, which mainly relies on application fees for funding, is underfunded.
McClintock countered that "under your administration, the fees for conducting interviews are no longer sufficient, as they were adequate prior to opening our borders."
The CHNV parole program, which allowed over 530,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela into the US, was a point of contention for the chairman.
The CHNV program, initiated by the Biden administration in January 2023, enables up to 30,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the U.S. monthly. The program was momentarily halted by the administration in July due to fraud allegations but was subsequently reinstated shortly thereafter.
McClintock stated that the parole authority, which allowed for case-by-case review of individual exigent circumstances to grant temporary entry to the United States, was transformed into a fraudulent, mass admission of over 500,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans daily, up to 1,000 per day.
McClintock accused USCIS of failing to adequately screen CHNV sponsors and permitting migrants to sponsor one another.
One parolee can enter this country, receive an indefinite status, and then sponsor the next, which is illegal chain migration facilitated by an agency that bends and ignores the law, according to him.
Jaddou confessed that CHNV parole sponsors can bring in other migrants. She stated that 86% of sponsors are US citizens and residents, leaving uncertainty about the remaining 14%.
Jaddou was questioned by Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs about the widespread abuses of the CHNV program by migrants, with hundreds and thousands of instances of the same Social Security number, email, zip code, and responses being used on multiple sponsor applications.
"Biggs stated that the program was full of fraud, with fraud being so widespread that it led to its closure. However, he pointed out that the issue still persists, as the program has not been fixed despite being shut down."
According to Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt, reducing illegal immigration, as perceived by the left, is straightforward. All you need to do is legalize it.
"Biden was upset by the American people's complaints about the increase in illegal immigration numbers at the border. In response, he legalized illegal immigration by expanding the intended use of parole to meet his needs."
During the hearing, Jaddou argued that her agency was effectively managing its responsibilities, including the CHNV program, which she described as "a single component" of "a comprehensive border management strategy."
""Enforcement measures alone cannot ensure long-lasting success, which is why this process is crucial," she stated."
