'Strong backing': Governors from the Republican party unite for Trump and DOGE before the inauguration.
GOP governors show 'strong backing' for DOGE, urging Congress to balance the federal budget.
The nation's Republican governors are expressing their "strong backing" for President-elect Trump's proposed "Department of Government Efficiency," commonly referred to as DOGE.
The governors wrote to Congressional leaders and expressed their support for DOGE while highlighting the significance of maintaining a balanced federal budget.
The governors, as chief executives of their states, have expertise in streamlining government, eliminating bureaucracy, and implementing effective, outcome-oriented solutions in state government. They support President Trump in his efforts to achieve the same goals with the federal government.
In November, following his presidential election win, Trump appointed Elon Musk, the wealthiest individual globally, and Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate and entrepreneur, to lead DOGE.
An oversight subcommittee has been established by the House of Representatives, while the Senate has formed a DOGE caucus to collaborate with Musk and Ramaswamy.
Our states' success lies in our ability to manage our finances responsibly. We maintain balanced budgets, reduce taxes, utilize surpluses, pay off debt, enhance the efficiency of our government, and foster an environment that enables our citizens to achieve a prosperous future for themselves, their families, and their communities.
We agree with President Trump's appointment of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy and their assertion that the federal government needs to be cut down to size. We stand ready to help.
The letter was signed by 26 Republican governors, including RGA policy chair Gov. Henry McMaster of South Carolina and RGA chair Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia, who led the effort.
The governors of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming are Kay Ivey, Mike Dunleavy, Sarah Sanders, Ron DeSantis, Brad Little, Eric Holcomb, Kim Reynolds, Jeff Landry, Tate Reeves, Mike Parson, Greg Gianforte, Jim Pillen, Joe Lombardo, Kelly Ayotte, Kelly Armstrong, Mike DeWine, Kevin Stitt, Kristi Noem, Bill Lee, Greg Abbott, Spencer Cox, Glenn Youngkin, Jim Justice, and Mark Gordon.
Gov. Phil Scott of Vermont was the only one of the 27 Republican governors who did not sign the letter. Despite being a longstanding member of the RGA, Scott has a history of not signing many of their letters.
The day after many GOP governors dined with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, a letter was sent.
