Speaker Johnson mocked by AI-generated image in opposition to foreign aid.
Massie claims there are GOP colleagues who would prefer to harm their own mothers than reduce government expenditures.
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., likened America's foreign aid policy to an absurd scenario where someone waters their neighbor's yard while their own house burns.
"While your house is on fire, you're watering your neighbor's yard with US foreign aid spending," he tweeted.
The congressman responded to his initial remark by posting an AI-generated photo of House Speaker Mike Johnson spraying water from a hose onto a burning house.
A spokesperson for Massie confirmed that the image was created using AI, specifically Grok, after Planet Chronicle Digital requested comment.
Vivek Ramaswamy countered Massie's remark on foreign aid by stating, "It is even more problematic - as U.S. government officials are using other individuals' funds to carry out these actions."
The Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) was established by President-elect Donald Trump, with Ramaswamy and Elon Musk appointed to promote government cost-cutting.
But getting Republicans on board with drastic spending cuts could prove problematic.
During a WABC radio interview, Massie stated that some of his Republican colleagues would rather harm their own mothers than vote to reduce spending.
GOP Rep. Chip Roy of Texas concurred with Massie's viewpoint, stating, "He's not wrong..." in a post on X.
Despite some Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, supporting it, conservatives have been criticizing a government spending proposal released suddenly to prevent a potential government shutdown.
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., declared on X that he had hoped to see @SpeakerJohnson grow a spine, but the bill full of pork shows he is a weak, weak man. The debt will continue to grow, ultimately leading to the failure of the dollar. Democrats are clueless, and Big Gov Republicans are complicit. This is a sad day for America.
Johnson's spokesperson directed Planet Chronicle Digital to Johnson's interview on "Fox & Friends" in response to a request for comment on Paul and Massie's comments and the AI-generated image Massie shared.
During the interview, Johnson stated that the spending measure postpones the government funding problem until March when the Republicans will have control of both Congress and the White House, allowing them to determine spending for 2025. Additionally, the measure includes disaster relief and aid for farmers.
"I am known as 'NostraThomas' because I accurately predicted that Speaker Johnson would use the Christmas recess to push a large spending bill through Congress. Despite initially stating he wouldn't, Johnson is now following a D.C. tradition that's almost as old as decorating Christmas trees," Massie tweeted.
Johnson stated earlier this year that there would be no "Christmas omnibus."
Johnson stated that the measure being considered is not an omnibus, in response to pressure from Planet Chronicle senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram.
