Speaker Johnson Assures Rep. Spartz He Won't Sell Out to the Swamp
Rep. Thomas Massie is strongly opposing Johnson's bid, while Indiana congresswoman presents demands.
Rep. Victoria Spartz, R-Ind., is demanding assurances from House Speaker Mike Johnson that he won't betray their party to the swamp.
Johnson received a major boost on Monday when Trump endorsed him to continue as the speaker's gavel holder.
President Trump's endorsement of Speaker Johnson, as he did Speaker Ryan, is significant. Nevertheless, it is crucial to obtain guarantees that @SpeakerJohnson will not betray us to the swamp, as Spartz pointed out in a post on X.
"If we want President Trump to save America, we need a speaker with courage, vision, and a plan, as well as a public commitment to the American people on how they will help deliver Trump's agenda to drain the swamp," she tweeted.
Spartz had previously issued a statement on Monday, criticizing Congress's excessive spending and demanding a plan to fulfill President-elect Trump's agenda, which she claimed she has not seen from current House Speaker Mike Johnson.
""Our next speaker must exhibit courageous leadership to ensure that Congress fulfills its constitutional duty to oversee the spending of taxpayer money and prevent the country from facing a financial crisis," Spartz stated."
Johnson's office did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry.
Trump endorsed Johnson on Truth Social, calling him a "good, hardworking, religious man" and stating that he would do the right thing. He added, "We will continue to win, and Mike has my complete and total endorsement. MAGA!"
Johnson expressed gratitude to Trump in a post on X, stating, "We will promptly fulfill your America First agenda and bring about a new era of prosperity for America. The American people expect and deserve immediate action. Let's get started!"
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., remained firm in his stance not to support Johnson's reelection as speaker, even after Trump's endorsement on Monday.
I support President Trump, but his endorsement of Mike Johnson is likely to be as unsuccessful as his endorsement of Speaker Paul Ryan. As Massie tweeted, we've seen Johnson collaborate with Democrats to fund Ukraine, authorize surveillance on Americans, and exceed the budget.
