Senator Dem accused of using Hegseth's daughter in 'disgusting' confirmation hearing exchange.
Kaine's questioning was criticized as hypocritical by conservatives on social media.
During a heated hearing, Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., brought up Pete Hegseth's daughter, which sparked backlash from conservatives on social media, arguing that the comments were inappropriate.
During his Senate confirmation hearing on Tuesday, the former vice presidential candidate questioned Hegseth, saying, "You believe you are entirely exonerated because you did not commit any crime?"
"You had just fathered a child two months before by a woman that was not your wife. You claim to be completely cleared of any wrongdoing, yet you cheated on your second wife and the mother of your newly born child. How can you so casually disregard the consequences of your actions and claim to be cleared?"
Hegseth, a former Planet Chronicle host, was accused of sexual assault in an October 2017 incident in Monterey, California. Despite being cleared of wrongdoing following an investigation, he has since described the incident as consensual.
""Senator, my child's name is Gwendolyn Hope Hegseth, and she is a child of God. She is 7 years old, and I am happy she is here," Hegseth stated."
""You cheated on the mother of that child, didn't you, less than two months after the daughter was born?" Kaine responded."
Kaine was informed by Hegseth that the charges against him were "false" and that he had been "completely cleared." He expressed his gratitude to his wife, whom he referred to as an "amazing woman," for the marriage they share.
Isn't it true that you had consensual sex at the hotel in October 2017 and you admitted to it?
Kaine and the two continued to debate the accuracy of the accusations against Hegseth, with Kaine questioning whether he upheld his marriage commitment.
At one point, Hegseth stated, "I will let your words speak for themselves."
Hegseth admitted that he is not a perfect person and does not claim to be, but Kaine accused him of withholding information about an accusation during the vetting process by the Trump team.
Hegseth's relationship with drinking and other allegations were questioned by Kaine.
During the hearing, conservatives on social media, including Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., objected to Kaine's questioning, particularly when he brought up Hegseth's daughter.
Drew Hernandez, a conservative commentator, criticized Senator Tim Kaine for attempting to use Pete Hegseth's 7-year-old daughter against him, calling it a despicable act.
"Senator Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) attempts to give Pete Hegseth a lecture on adultery, despite his own past with Hillary Clinton, who was also on the same failed presidential ticket as him."
""During his marriage, Pete Hegseth's conduct was criticized by Tim Kaine, who campaigned with Doug Emhoff, who impregnated his nanny and forced her to get an abortion," Will Chamberlain posted on X."
Kaine's office did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
