Next week, the Senate GOP will choose a new leader, with Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., supporting Sen. John Cornyn, R-Tx., for the position.

GOP senators will vote via secret ballot on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

John Cornyn is my choice for majority leader," Hawley stated. "Over the past two years, he has made significant efforts to regain the majority, and he was instrumental in raising funds for my Senate race.

Hawley continued, stating that he has a heart for people and has voiced his support for the RECA compromise that would fairly compensate hundreds of thousands of Americans poisoned by their government, including many in Missouri.

He will work closely and effectively with President Trump to deliver on the promise of our new majority, and I am delighted to give him my support.

Along with Cornyn, Senators Rick Scott of Florida and John Thune of South Dakota are also contenders for the Senate Republican leader position.

Currently, Thune is the Senate Republican Whip, a position that Cornyn previously held. Previously, Scott served as the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) chair.

Republicans won the Senate majority in the 2024 election.

This year, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who has led the Senate GOP since 2007, announced that his current term as Senate Republican leader would be his last.

Thune suggests Trump shouldn't weigh in on Senate leader race

On Fox Business' "Kudlow," Scott expressed his hope that President-elect Trump would back him for the position.

Thune stated on CNBC's "Squawk Box" that he would prefer Trump to avoid running for leadership.
