Sen. Booker expresses frustration over lack of transparency about drones, stating it leads to the spread of misinformation.
The New Jersey Democrat urged Americans to be informed about the enigmatic drones.
Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., expressed his frustration with the government's lack of transparency regarding the recent drone sightings in his state and the surrounding areas in the mid-Atlantic region.
The senator stated on Capitol Hill on Thursday that he has written a letter requesting additional details, as it is crucial for Americans to be informed about events in the sky.
"He expressed frustration to reporters, stating that there hasn't been enough transparency regarding what's happening. This has allowed misinformation to spread and created fear, he said. People should be informed about what's happening overhead."
Booker stated that he has been receiving feedback from his constituents and other elected officials who share his worries about the enigmatic drones.
"The government has agencies and organizations that can offer more information than the public requires on a concerning situation, he stated."
The senator is concerned that the lack of transparency regarding drones could contribute to the spread of false information.
He stated that he had heard many things about them and wanted to confirm all the facts.
Booker expressed a different view from Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., who stated that drones should be shot down if necessary.
""Safety first. We should prioritize the safety and security of our communities, but we should also stay informed," Booker said."
Earlier this month, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that large drones were first spotted in New Jersey on Nov. 18.
The White House stated in a daily press conference on Thursday that the ongoing investigation into drones has not uncovered any evidence of malicious, criminal or threatening behavior to national security at this time.
