Sen. Blumenthal advises that mysterious drones sighted recently should be eliminated, even if it means using force.
The senator stated that the lack of information on the drones was unacceptable.
A Connecticut senator suggested that the drones sighted in the mid-Atlantic region should be eliminated, even if it means using force.
On Capitol Hill on Thursday, Senator Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., stated that intelligence analysis is necessary on the drones and the U.S. must take more aggressive action against the reported sightings.
"The senator suggested that we should conduct intelligent analysis and remove drones from the skies, especially if they are flying over airports or military bases. He added that if necessary, they should be shot down because they are flying over sensitive areas."
Blumenthal stated that the lack of information regarding the drones, their ownership, and origin is completely unacceptable.
Large drones have been reported flying over New Jersey in recent weeks, and on Thursday, they were allegedly spotted in Blumenthal's state for the first time.
John Kirby, the White House national security communications adviser, stated on Thursday that many of the reported drones are actually legally operated manned aircraft.
"Kirby stated at the daily White House press briefing that there is currently no evidence to suggest that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat, or have a foreign connection. The DHS and FBI are collaborating with state and local law enforcement to investigate these sightings using various detection methods to determine their source."
Kirby stated that the investigation into the alleged drones has not uncovered any national security threats, malicious intent, or criminal activity, but acknowledged that the government is still in the early stages of the investigation.
Blumenthal stated that his office requires a briefing on the drones, asserting it is crucial for Congress and the public, as numerous individuals express concern and fear.
Constituents in the metropolitan area around New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey are terrified by unidentified drones flying over airports and military bases, according to him.
The senator stated that the drones are causing a "level of fear, even terror" due to concerns about surveillance and airplanes flying in the same airspace.
He advised Americans to purchase drones made in the USA rather than China, as they could potentially be used for surveillance and pose a security threat.
"The use of Chinese-made drones poses a threat to this country's security, according to Blumenthal, who urged us to stop using them."
