Republican lawmakers Boebert and Burlison propose legislation to eliminate the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
Conservatives assert that the ATF infringes on the Second Amendment rights of Americans.
Reps. Lauren Boebert and Eric Burlison have proposed a bill to eliminate the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
The bill proposes to abolish the law enforcement agency responsible for enforcing firearms regulations, prosecuting federal gun crimes, and investigating explosives-related crimes, arson, bombings, terrorism, and illegal activities related to alcohol and tobacco products.
The Second Amendment rights of Americans to keep and bear arms are being violated by Republican lawmakers who argue that ATF regulations are too restrictive.
Boebert stated that it is impossible to envision a situation in which the ATF supports the Second Amendment and responsible gun owners in any way, shape, or form.
"Burlison stated that the ATF represents the deep-state bureaucracy that believes it can disregard constitutional liberties without repercussions. If this agency fails to fulfill its obligation to serve the public within the confines of the Constitution, it has no place in our government."
Seven House of Representatives, including Reps. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., Mike Collins, R-Ga., Bob Onder, R-Mo., Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., Mary Miller, R-Ill., Keith Self, R-Texas and Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., have co-sponsored a bill to abolish the ATF.
ATF did not immediately respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
In an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, Burlison advocated for the states to handle the law enforcement responsibilities currently managed by the ATF.
He accused the ATF of "co-opting or commandeering local law enforcement to enforce laws" that state lawmakers did not pass, stating that there are very few ATF officials.
The ATF offers significant advantages to the public through its daily efforts to combat violent crime, as stated by ATF spokesperson Kristina Mastropasqua in a conversation with Planet Chronicle Digital.
Burlison stated that the Department of Education and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) should be abolished.
Planet Chronicle Digital's Alex Nitzberg contributed to this report.
