The House Ethics Committee was informed by a woman that she had sexual relations with Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., when she was just 17 years old.

On Thursday, ABC News reported that the woman testified to the committee in its investigation into Gaetz. The investigation has now ceased after House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., announced that Gaetz resigned from Congress on Wednesday.

Hours after President-elect Donald Trump named Gaetz as his attorney general, a resignation announcement was made.

The House Ethics Committee's chief counsel did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry.

Planet Chronicle Digital also reached out to Gaetz's congressional office for comment.

The woman in her twenties was previously spoken to by the Department of Justice (DOJ) as part of its ongoing investigation into Gaetz, which involves accusations of sex trafficking and obstruction of justice, according to ABC.

Despite the DOJ's investigation, no charges were filed against Gaetz, and he maintains his innocence.

Over the summer, the House Ethics Committee issued a subpoena to the woman, according to the report.

The committee has lost jurisdiction over the investigation into Gaetz since he resigned and the panel was expected to meet soon to potentially release a report.

The report could still be released, though it would break committee precedent.

If Gaetz is confirmed to lead the department that once investigated him, it could come out.

The senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, expressed his desire to view the report.

He stated that the Senate Judiciary Committee should not have any restrictions on its investigation, regardless of what the House ethics committee has produced.
