Report uncovers powerful ally of Harris who is ready to share resources from Black-owned businesses with CCP.
Ron Busby was lauded by VP Harris as an exceptional leader who displays bold leadership.
A close ally of Vice President Kamala Harris, who she has lauded as a "remarkable leader" displaying "bold leadership," had meetings with several CCP officials during a business trip to China, where he pledged to "amplify the voices of Black businesses," according to Planet Chronicle Digital's exclusive report.
A review by Planet Chronicle Digital found that Ron Busby, the longtime president of the U.S. Black Chambers and a frequent visitor to the Biden-Harris White House, met with several CCP officials during a previously unreported trip to China.
As part of a 10-day trip, a delegation of New York government officials and business leaders, including then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo's chief diversity officer Rose Rodriguez, traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi'an.
The delegation's trip in September 2017 was backed by the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in New York, a Chinese government office in New York that serves as a representative of the CCP and was recently implicated in an unsealed indictment against a top former aide to New York's Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul. The New York in China Center, with offices in New York and Shanghai, was the official sponsor of the trip.
John Wang, who was recently appointed by New York City's Democrat Mayor Eric Adams and currently serves on the board of directors for the Empire State Development Board after being nominated in 2022 by Hochul, established the New York in China Center in 2008 to facilitate business, investment, technology, and cultural exchanges between New York and China.
Busby's Facebook profile contains numerous photos from his trip, including a "selfie" of him flying to China with the caption, "Journeying to China. Amplifying the voices of Black businesses worldwide."
A photo depicts Busby and his delegation seated around a table with a CCP hammer and sickle emblem on a wall behind them. Following the trip, Busby stated in a Facebook post that the United States, Africa, and China are interdependent for the new sustainability.
"During the 2017 Essence Festival Durban Business Conference, Busby stated that two weeks prior, they were in China and signed a similar memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. The importance of being on the continent was understood by China, as well as the need for a relationship between the people on the continent. African Americans have a natural relationship with the continent, and so the three continents will work together to bring their resources and ingenuity to the region. Collectively, all three continents can grow, and both parties are excited about the partnership."
In 2022, Busby's "U.S. Black Chambers" published a "BLACKprint" report highlighting the opportunities for "Black entrepreneurs" to access global business opportunities. The report stated that they had signed Memorandums of Understanding with business leaders in Durban, Morocco, and China.
The New York in China Center's website features numerous photos from the trip, including three reports detailing the delegation's interactions with Chinese Communist Party officials.
According to the Xi’an report reviewed by Planet Chronicle Digital, Busby informed Chinese officials that the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. managed over 100 chambers and was open to sharing and communicating resources with Xi’an in multiple areas.
As the president of the U.S. Black Chambers, Busby has become a prominent business leader not only within the Black community but has also gained access to meetings with top U.S. government officials, including President Biden, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Vice President Harris, among others, to represent his group's interests.
In July, Harris hosted an exclusive reception at her private residence to recognize Black business leaders, in collaboration with U.S. Black Chambers, Inc. The event, attended by Busby, was a powerful affirmation of the significant advancements Black business leaders have made in shaping the country's economic landscape.
In Detroit, Michigan for an economic recovery event, Harris praised Busby as an "extraordinary leader" who has displayed "courageous leadership." Harris, who referred to Busby as her "Oakland brother" at an event in 2021, may face criticism due to her China trip.
"The delegation will engage in talks with Chinese government leaders and business representatives about Sino-US technological innovation, business development, friendship agreements, and other projects during their 2017 trip to China. The press release emphasized that this trip aimed to establish communication channels and networks for Chinese companies seeking growth opportunities in the United States."
The Xi’an report stated that the delegation had a meeting with "Li Yuan, the Vice Mayor of Xi’an, Huang Xiaohua-the Vice Secretary-General of Xi’an Provincial People's Government, Xing Xin-Director of Xi’an Investment Cooperation Committee, Cai Lanfang-Vice President of Xi’an People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and other representatives."
The U.S. government's repeated warnings about People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries may lead to scrutiny of Busby's participation in a delegation meeting with the group. In 2020, then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo released a press statement stating that the organization is a "Beijing-based organization tasked with co-opting subnational governments" that "has sought to directly and malignly influence state and local leaders to promote the PRC's global agenda."
The DNI of the Biden administration issued a 2022 report warning about the group and revealed that U.S.-based Chinese consulates, such as the one funding Busby's trip to China, actively participate in foreign influence operations on behalf of the CCP.
A report from the trip stated that Busby and the delegation had a meeting with Chen Xiangming, Secretary of Shanghai Songjiang District, and other CCP leaders from the region.
The New York Center was thanked by Mr. Cheng Xiangmin for its long-term work in establishing a friendship between the two cities, and he expressed his anticipation of enhancing communication with the 'New Majority' Alliance and expanding cooperation in areas such as science and technology, health care, and education.
