Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to support Johnson for re-election after attempting to remove him as speaker in 2020.
Rep. Thomas Massie has stated that he will not vote for Johnson on Friday under any conditions.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who previously attempted to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson from his position, announced that she will support his re-election on Friday.
The congresswoman criticized Johnson as "the Uniparty Speaker," arguing that he was "exactly what is wrong with the Republican establishment" and had "failed to deliver for conservatives while giving everything to Joe Biden and Democrats."
She intends to cast her vote for Johnson to retain his position as leader on Friday.
"She urged the GOP to set aside their pride, egos, and infighting in a video, stating that it is crucial for the party to unite and take action to fulfill the mandate given by the American people."
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who previously supported the effort to remove Johnson from his position, has stated that he will not back Johnson's attempt to maintain his role as speaker.
"During an appearance on "The Matt Gaetz Show," Massie stated that even if someone tried to remove his fingernails, stuff bamboo up them, or cut off his fingers, he would not vote for Mike Johnson tomorrow."
President-elect Donald Trump endorsed Johnson for the job earlier this week.
"Mike Johnson is a hardworking, religious man who will always do the right thing. He has my complete and total endorsement, and we will continue to win together," Trump stated in a Truth Social post.
Johnson's victory path is uncertain and may be disrupted if another Republican decides to join Massie in opposing Johnson's candidacy.
To win the election, the candidate must receive a majority of votes from all members.
Johnson's victory could be blocked by just two Republicans.
If Johnson receives 218 votes, he wins. However, if he gets 219 votes, he loses.
Johnson stated on Fox Business' "Kudlow" that he believes he will secure the gavel in the initial round of voting and is optimistic about the outcome.
