Rep. Andy Biggs announces plans to run for Arizona governor and shares his understanding of the state's needs for growth.
In 2023, eight Republicans, including Biggs, voted to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his position.
On Tuesday, Republican Congressman Andy Biggs declared his intention to run for governor in 2026, aiming to defeat the incumbent Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs.
Biggs, a supporter of President Trump and former leader of the conservative Freedom Caucus, submitted a statement of intent to run for office.
However, filing a statement doesn't mean a candidate will follow through.
Biggs stated that he will utilize his experience to aid his native state in reaching its full potential, as he has a clear comprehension of its requirements for success.
In 2023, Biggs was one of eight Republicans who helped remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., from his position.
If Biggs runs, there is a possibility of a fight between him and Karrin Taylor Robson, another Trump ally.
Trump expressed his support for Karrin's potential gubernatorial candidacy at Turning Point USA's Americafest event in Phoenix last month.
In 2022, Robson ran for governor but lost to Kari Lake, who was endorsed by Trump. Lake later lost the election to Hobbs and also recently lost a bid for the U.S. Senate.
Biggs stated that he is eager to discuss the decision with his fellow Arizonans.
X was endorsed by Sen. Jake Hoffman, a Republican and founding chair of the Arizona Freedom Caucus.
"Andy will make an incredible governor and ensure Arizona's safety and prosperity for all," he wrote.
