Red state plans to buy border wall materials for storage, with Trump's support.
The selling off of border wall materials has angered Republicans.
The officials in Texas are preparing to purchase and store the border wall materials being sold by the federal government until the Trump administration assumes office in January.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick responded to reports of ongoing sales of border wall materials that were previously stockpiled near the border following the abrupt halt of border wall construction in 2021.
"On "The Ingraham Angle," Patrick stated that he would bid on the entire wall, purchase it in Texas, and give it to Donald Trump."
He stated that he had a billion dollars at his disposal to accomplish it.
Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham stated that she is "fully prepared" to assist in the effort, and her comments were backed by her.
"The Texas General Land Office is ready to assist in storing any border wall materials purchased, according to the speaker, who called the Biden administration's decision to auction off the materials "shameful.""
The Biden administration halted border wall construction in January 2021, leaving 450 miles unfinished, after the first Trump administration built it. Border hawks argue that a wall is essential for stopping illegal immigration, while some Democrats contend that a wall project is bigoted and ineffective.
In 2023, the sale of border wall parts commenced on GovPlanet.com, an online auction platform, after the Defense Department's logistics agency turned over the excess material from the Army Corps of Engineers for disposal.
Weekly auctions have been taking place in Arizona, according to officials, despite the unused wall parts being transported on flatbed trucks in the state, which could have been utilized in the next Trump administration.
When he assumes office next month, President-elect Donald Trump intends to resume construction of the border wall. He characterized the disposal of wall components as "almost a criminal act" on Monday and urged the administration to halt the sale of wall parts.
The Pentagon has been disposing of excess wall construction in accordance with the FY 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, which mandated the Defense secretary to submit a plan to use, transfer or donate all remaining wall material purchased with Pentagon funds. The plan was submitted in March.
Officials stated that Texas, along with other border states, were given priority for materials. Both Texas and California made requests and received border materials, according to the officials.
"Nearly 60% of the materials were transferred to authorized recipients, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the states of Texas and California, while the remaining 40% was sold to GOVPLANET under a competitive sales contract process beginning in June 2024. The material currently being sold through GOVPLANET online auctions no longer belongs to the U.S. Government, and DoD has no legal authority to recall the material or stop further resale of material it no longer owns."
The incoming administration can count on Texas' support in securing the border and carrying out a mass deportation campaign.
Last month, Planet Chronicle Digital reported that Texas had given 1,400 acres of land to the incoming administration for staging its mass deportation operation. Border czar Thomas Homan has already started planning how to utilize the land effectively.
Planet Chronicle' Jennifer Griffin contributed to this report.
