Pete Hegseth vows to remain involved in the ongoing battle after meeting with senators.
Hegseth stated that he would continue to fight until President-elect Trump desires his removal from the battle.
Pete Hegseth, the former National Guard officer appointed by President-elect Trump to lead the Department of Defense, stated that he has had "great" discussions with senators in an attempt to secure his confirmation and is fully committed to the fight.
Hegseth denied any wrongdoing and refused to back down from a fight as his nomination remains in limbo amid drinking and sexual misconduct allegations on Thursday.
"Hegseth stated that his conversations with senators have been productive, discussing his identity and beliefs. He added, "I am a different person today because of my faith in Jesus Christ and my wife Jenny, who is here with me.""
"He stated that he believes many Americans appreciate the redemption story of the character. Fellow veterans he has spent time with also resonate with it. They have experienced tough situations in difficult places while serving their country. These experiences can change a person."
Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Hegseth, wrote a critical email about her son's past relationships with women. She later joined "FOX and Friends" to clarify that she wrote the email in a heated moment following her son's divorce and apologized soon after sending it.
Hegseth's mother stated that she did not believe any of the accusations against him.
According to multiple sources, Trump is reportedly considering nominating Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as defense secretary in place of Hegseth amid the allegations against him.
Hegseth rejected the possibility of a replacement, stating that he was ready to battle.
"I will remain in this fight as long as Donald Trump desires my presence, and I will continue to fight for the restoration of the Pentagon to its required state," he declared.
Hegseth stated to reporters that he is accountable only to Trump, God, his family, and the senators who will vote on his confirmation.
Hegseth stated that the discussions with senators have been intense, sometimes confrontational, with insightful inquiries about policy and character.
"We'll earn those votes by fighting all the way through the tape," he stated. "I'm grateful for the president's support because his vision for the Department of Defense is to restore its core capacity of deterring and defeating our enemies if necessary."
