Hours after Matt Gaetz withdrew his name for attorney general, Trump appointed Pam Bondi as his AG nominee.

The DOJ has been weaponized against me and other Republicans for too long, but that ends now. Pam will redirect the DOJ to its original purpose of combating crime and ensuring public safety.

"Pam is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter who is smart, tough, and will excel as Attorney General."

The America First Policy Institute has a Center of Litigation and a Center for Law and Justice, both of which are chaired by Bondi.

Here's what to know about Trump's new AG pick:

Bondi worked as a prosecutor before becoming Florida's first female attorney general

Bondi, a 59-year-old Tampa native, holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Florida and a law degree from Stetson Law School. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1991.

For over 18 years, she served as a prosecutor at the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office, handling a range of cases including domestic violence and murder.

In 2010, Bondi became the first female attorney general in Florida's history. Her campaign centered on challenging the Affordable Care Act, later shifting to human trafficking issues once she took office. Additionally, she shut down pill mills and addressed the state's opioid crisis.

She held the post until 2019.

Trump's first impeachment trial defense team included Bondi.

In 2020, Bondi served as one of Trump's legal counsel during his impeachment trial, where he was accused of misusing his power and impeding Congress's investigation.

"The president was not charged with any crime because there was no wrongdoing," Bondi stated when the articles of impeachment were sent to the Senate. "The transcript of the phone call clearly shows this."

Bondi collaborated with national leaders on drug prevention and treatment as part of Trump's Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during his first administration.

Susie Wiles, the incoming chief of staff, has a lobbying firm with ties to Trump and Bondi as a partner.

Bondi is a partner at Ballard Partners, a Florida-based lobbying firm founded by Brian Ballard. She divides her time between Florida and Washington, D.C., heading the firm's corporate regulatory practice.

During Trump's first term, the D.C. office earned over $70 million in lobbying fees, representing various corporate clients, as per federal disclosures.

Bondi has been a staunch supporter of Trump throughout his legal troubles

Bondi has been critical of Trump's prosecutions and even appeared with him in New York City during his hush money trial.

In April, Bondi told Planet Chronicle host Trace Gallagher that the case involving Trump was being portrayed as a first-degree murder case, despite her having tried many trial cases and never encountering anything like it.

Bondi stated that they were attempting to silence him not only of his right to free speech but also of his ability to defend himself.
