On the same day that Trump meets with Zelenskyy in Paris, the Biden administration announces $988M in aid to Ukraine.
The Biden administration is pledging to provide maximum aid to Ukraine before Trump assumes office in January.
On Saturday, the Biden administration declared a $988 million aid package for Ukraine to help it succeed in its battle against Russian aggression.
"President Reagan would have supported Ukraine, American security, and human freedom, according to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who spoke at the Reagan National Defense Forum in California on Saturday. The next administration must now make its own choice, but Austin is confident that Reagan's stance would have been in favor of Ukraine."
The aid package, funded through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, will provide Ukraine with munitions for rocket systems and unmanned aerial systems, as well as support for maintenance and repair programs to help reconstitute its forces and build and sustain combat power, according to a release from the administration.
During a ceremony in Paris to commemorate the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral, President-elect Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Trump and JD Vance heavily criticized the Biden administration's support for Ukraine during the campaign, and Trump stated that he would end the war before entering office without providing further details.
Earlier this year, Vance suggested that the best way to end the war was for Ukraine to surrender the land Russia has seized and for a demilitarized zone to be established. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected this proposal flatly.
Zelenskyy has stated that he is more receptive to peace talks and believes Ukraine should be granted membership in NATO.
The Biden administration has pledged to provide maximum aid to Ukraine before Trump assumes office in January.
Jake Sullivan, the National Security Advisor, announced on Monday that the president had decided to increase security assistance for Ukraine by $725 million in September, in order to strengthen Ukrainian forces before he left office.
"We will provide Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of additional artillery rounds, thousands of additional rockets, and other critical capabilities to aid in its defense of freedom and independence from mid-January until then."
Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, stated last month that President Biden is committed to ensuring that every available dollar is spent before January 20.
The 22nd aid package for Ukraine was announced on Saturday by the administration through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
This week, Congress rejected the administration's request for $24 billion in additional funding.
"Johnson stated that it is not up to Joe Biden to make that decision at this time. "We have a new president, and we will follow the new commander in chief's direction on all matters. Therefore, I do not anticipate any Ukraine funding to be available now," Johnson said."
