On December 29, at the age of 100, the former President Jimmy Carter passed away.
The Washington National Cathedral hosted a state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter on Thursday, with all living former presidents in attendance, along with dignitaries from numerous countries.
Also notable were some VIPs not in attendance.
Despite his health issues, former Vice President Dick Cheney was absent from the funeral held at Washington, D.C.'s National Cathedral, making him the only living vice president who did not attend. In contrast, former Vice Presidents Al Gore, Joe Biden, Mike Pence, and Dan Quayle were present.
Michelle Obama was absent from the ceremony and did not sit beside her husband, former President Barack Obama.
Michelle Obama's spokesperson, Crystal Carson, stated that the former First Lady sends her condolences and well-wishes to the Carter family, as well as to all those who were inspired by the late President.
Michelle Obama, who was scheduled to sit next to Trump at the funeral, had a scheduling conflict and is currently in Hawaii.
Bill Clinton, the former president, was accompanied by his wife, Hillary Clinton, who was once the first lady.
At the funeral, former first ladies Karen Pence, Laura Bush, and Melania Trump were present, sitting with their husbands. Jill Biden sat beside President Biden.
The five living former presidents, including President Biden, Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama, and President-elect Trump, gathered for the first time since the 2018 funeral of former President George H.W. Bush.
Notable attendees at the event included Vice President-elect JD Vance, Pennsylvania GOP Sen. Dave McCormick, Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Hunter Biden, and Ted Mondale, the son of late Vice President Walter Mondale.
After the funeral, Carter's remains will be transported to Georgia by the U.S. Air Force on Special Air Mission 39 for a private ceremony in his hometown of Plains.
In 2023, Carter, the 39th president, was admitted to hospice care and passed away on Dec. 29 at the age of 100.
