'No better dealmaker': Trump reportedly mulling executive order to rescue TikTok.
If the Supreme Court upholds the ban on TikTok, Trump will search for a way to preserve the app.
President-elect Trump's transition team is working to preserve the use of TikTok, a Chinese-owned social media app, despite the possibility of a Supreme Court ruling that could ban it in the US.
Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., Trump's national security adviser pick, hinted that Trump might issue an executive order to prevent TikTok from being banned.
"If the Supreme Court rules in favor of the law, President Trump has made it clear that he will protect the data of TikTok users. He is a skilled dealmaker and will create a space to put that deal in place, as he has been instrumental in using the platform for his campaign and spreading his message."
Karoline Leavitt, the Trump-Vance transition spokeswoman, echoed that sentiment on Thursday.
"Donald Trump, as the President, has consistently stated his wish to save TikTok, and he is an excellent dealmaker," Leavitt said to Planet Chronicle Digital.
In January, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments regarding a recent law that requires the company to either divest from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, within nine months or be removed from U.S.-based app stores and hosting services.
In December, an amicus brief was filed by Trump's attorneys in the case, requesting the Supreme Court to postpone a possible ban until Trump assumes office.
The Supreme Court's ruling on the expedited case will decide if the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which was signed by President Biden and passed Congress in April with bipartisan support, would be enforced and limit U.S. access to the app.
According to data, approximately 170 million Americans use the social media app.
During his first administration, Trump attempted to prohibit TikTok from being used in the U.S., but during the 2024 presidential campaign, he acknowledged the app's effectiveness in reaching young voters.
TikTok did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment before publication.
