Nikki Haley condemns PAC for exploiting her name to back Harris amid Wisconsin GOP attacks
UN ambassador's name used without consent, she calls it "deceptive and wrong."
A campaign aimed at persuading over 77,000 Nikki Haley voters in Wisconsin to support Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election has been launched by Haley Voters for Harris. This move has sparked a backlash from the former Republican presidential candidate, who has sent a cease-and-desist letter in response.
Haley, the former U.N. Ambassador, stated on Planet Chronicle Digital that Kamala Harris and she have opposing views on every issue. Using her name to support Harris or her agenda is misleading and incorrect. Haley supports Donald Trump because she believes he is the right person to make America strong, safe, and prosperous.
The Haley Voters for Harris PAC received a letter from Haley's presidential campaign law firm, urging them to stop using Haley's name to imply her support for Harris for president.
The Haley Voters for Harris website reported that over 4.4 million people voted for Nikki Haley in the 2024 primary. If enough of these GOP primary voters switch to Harris, she could win the presidency. Craig Snyder, director of Haley Voters for Harris and former chief of staff to the late Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, believes that Haley voters could be crucial in deciding the outcome of the election in battleground states.
If even a small portion of this group of voters in Wisconsin, who have already shown their disapproval for Trump, join the coalition supporting the vice president, it could determine the outcome of the race. This coalition encompasses the entire American political spectrum, from Dick Cheney to Bernie Sanders, as stated by Snyder to Planet Chronicle Digital.
In the April GOP primary of Wisconsin, Haley, a former governor of South Carolina and UN ambassador under President Trump, received 76,841 votes despite having already dropped out of the race. Although Haley was defeated by the former president, who received over 400,000 more votes, Haley's supporters could be crucial in determining the outcome of the election in Wisconsin.
In 2020, President Biden won Wisconsin by a very narrow margin of only 0.62 percentage points, with 1,630,673 votes compared to Trump's 1,610,065. This was a difference of just over 20,000 votes. In contrast, in 2016, Trump won Wisconsin by a razor-thin margin of 23,000 more votes than Hillary Clinton.
In the primary, Haley's voters were mostly college-educated and independent-minded Republicans. To win over these center-right and moderate voters in swing states, including Wisconsin, Haley Voters for Harris will use social media and direct voter outreach.
The group aims to inform voters about Harris' centrist record, emphasizing her time as a tough prosecutor who helped the Biden administration move towards the center on various issues, including the executive order on asylum abuse, oil production drilling permits, and federal funding for hiring more police officers.
Snyder stated that the group will communicate directly with Haley voters and other moderates in Wisconsin through digital advertising, texting, and direct mail, despite Gov. Haley's personal decision to support Trump. These independent-minded voters will ultimately decide what's best for the country.
In July, Haley formally endorsed Trump at the Republican National Convention, stating that she has "strong support" for him and that one doesn't have to agree with him 100% of the time to vote for him.
According to William Howell, a professor at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago, voters who supported Haley in the primaries did not do so out of excitement for her candidacy, but rather because they were disillusioned with the Republican Party's current direction.
Howell stated that their votes may still be undecided.
If Haley Voters for Harris put in the effort, they can make a significant difference.
"Influencing the election outcome significantly doesn't require changing many minds, especially if you focus on the small group of undecided voters in competitive states, such as Wisconsin. Haley voters in this state could be the key to achieving this goal."
After President Biden's poor debate performance on June 27, which led him to withdraw from the presidential race, Snyder led the Haley Voters for Biden campaign and stated in a July press release that "many of us strongly believed that the country needed to move on from Donald Trump."
According to a CNN poll conducted by SSRS from Aug. 23-29, Harris had a 50% to 44% lead over Trump. However, recent polling from Wisconsin indicates a tighter race, and both Harris and Trump will need to win the state in order to secure the presidency.
