A New York congressman who is a Democrat argued that progressives were responsible for President-elect Trump's win this week, stating that left-wing policies disillusioned certain voters.

On Wednesday, Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., stated that his party has "alienated historic numbers" of minority voters, citing pro-Palestinian protests and the defense of police as contributing factors. Torres, a supporter of Israel, made the claim in a post on X (former Twitter).

The far left has become Donald Trump's closest ally, as it has successfully driven away significant numbers of Latinos, Blacks, Asians, and Jews from the Democratic Party through absurdities such as "Defund the Police," "From the River to the Sea," and "Latinx," according to Torres.

"The Democrat stated that politically, there is more to lose than to gain by catering to a far-left group that is more aligned with social media platforms like Twitter, Twitch, and TikTok than with the real world. He added that the working class is not swayed by the elitist rhetoric of the far left."

An outcry was prompted by an inflammatory joke made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a high-profile Oct. 27 rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City, which came days after the Trump campaign was criticized for hosting him.

After Hinchliffe made the remark, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., tried to use his joke as a chance to win over the Latino community.
