New senators sworn in to replace Vance and Rubio in Ohio and Florida.
The GOP now holds a complete 53-seat Senate majority.
On Tuesday, Ashley Moody and Jon Husted were sworn in as Secretary of State and Vice President, respectively, after Marco Rubio and JD Vance resigned from their positions.
The Senate conference now has 53 Republican members with the addition of two new senators.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., has appointed Moody as the next senator to replace Rubio. She was previously the state's attorney general.
Gov. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, announced his choice of his then-Lt. Gov. Jon Husted to replace Vance shortly after DeSantis made his pick.
In the upper chamber, there were 53 Republicans and 47 senators in the Democratic caucus.
To defeat the legislative filibuster's 60-vote threshold, the GOP will need the assistance of some Democrats, even with their several seat majority.
The threshold for nominations and budget reconciliation is lowered to 51.
Moody, after accepting DeSantis's appointment, stated that he would bring the same level of persistence, passion, and tenacity to the position as he has as Florida's Attorney General.
She stated, "I consider my work with you over the past six years not as a job but as a calling."
After DeWine's announcement, Husted expressed gratitude and said, "Thank you, Governor. It is an honor to be appointed to the U.S. Senate to serve the people of Ohio. I am grateful for the trust you have placed in me, first as your running mate, then as lieutenant governor, and now as your appointee to the Senate."
