New GOP resolution may challenge President Biden's climate standards for walk-in freezers.
The Department of Energy has tightened the climate standards for walk-in freezers.
Republicans in Congress are opposing Biden's appliance regulations with a resolution aimed at exempting freezers from new green energy standards.
In February 2025, Biden's Department of Energy (DOE) finalized stricter climate standards for walk-in coolers and freezers. However, the rule could be blocked by Republican lawmakers who are trying to overturn it.
On Thursday, Rep. Stephanie Bice, R-Oka., introduced a joint resolution of disapproval against the DOE standards for coolers and freezers, which can be used by lawmakers to invalidate a final rule enacted by a federal agency. If passed, the Republican-led Congress can overturn Biden's new green energy standard for appliances.
"The Biden administration has implemented strict regulations on all aspects of our homes and businesses, including the use of walk-in coolers and freezers in various settings such as pharmacies, convenience stores, food processing facilities, food banks, and restaurants," Bice stated to Planet Chronicle Digital.
The DOE's final rule on freezer standards aims to conserve energy, is feasible, and justified, but Bice believes it's an overreach of the government into people's lives.
"These rules are imposing excessive burdens on everyday Americans and limiting consumer options, which is an abuse of power that my colleagues and I are challenging," Bice stated. The joint resolution is being supported by GOP Rep. Gary Palmer of Alabama.
As Republicans hold a trifecta of leadership in Washington, they are preparing to introduce legislation and resolutions to challenge Biden's green energy regulations on various household appliances.
On Wednesday, Palmer presented a resolution to halt the ban on non-condensing, natural gas-fired water heaters, which was previously reported by Planet Chronicle Digital.
Trump has stated that he plans to repeal numerous environmental regulations passed under Biden's climate plan upon taking office.
