National Guard report contradicts Tim Walz's assertion that he carried war weapons during military service.
Ahead of battle, Walz retired and left his troops behind.
A video has emerged showing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz asserting that he carried weapons of war into an actual war. However, the Minnesota National Guard has refuted this claim, stating that Walz avoided any skirmishes and retreated, leaving his troops behind.
Kamala Harris's chosen vice presidential candidate, Walz, has spent 25 years in the National Guard.
A video of Walz making the controversial statement can be seen on X.
In his speech, Walz emphasized the need for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment while acknowledging the need for background checks, research on the impacts of gun violence, and ensuring that weapons of war are only carried in war. He targeted voters who are against guns on the streets.
Thomas Behrends, a retired Command Sgt. Maj. who was a member of Walz's battalion, criticized the governor's remarks.
According to Behrends, who spoke on the "Ingraham Angle" on Wednesday, most people would interpret that as him being in combat, carrying a weapon in a combat zone, receiving combat pay, and being in a dangerous and hostile environment where he is getting shot at.
Walz never mentioned which war he fought during his time in the Guard, even though there were two wars in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, none of which are reflected on his military record.
According to the Minnesota National Guard, Walz was a part of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) while he was stationed in Italy with his unit in 2005. However, he retired before his unit went into battle.
In May 2005, Walz left the National Guard after 24 years of service. However, his unit was not deployed to Iraq until July. He had submitted his retirement papers five to seven months prior to his retirement in May.
"Firstly, there are doubts about whether he served in OEF. His battalion was sent to Europe, specifically Vicenza, to train units in artillery - his specialty. If you are deployed overseas in support of OEF as part of the National Guard, you are officially considered to have served in OEF, regardless of whether you set foot in Afghanistan. This is reflected in his official military service record below."
An automated response was received from Walz's office when Planet Chronicle Digital sought comment.
This week, Kamala Harris was named as Walz's running mate on the Democratic national ticket. Harris, the current vice president, will aim to succeed President Biden and confront former President Donald Trump in the upcoming general election.
J.D. Vance, Trump's running mate, served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and accused Walz of abandoning his fellow soldiers during their journey to war while speaking at an event in Michigan on Wednesday.
Vance stated that you left your unit just before they were deployed to Iraq.
