NAACP leader who gave Biden award invited notorious antisemite to his church multiple times.
Rev. Anthony's church hosted Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam at least 3 times, in addition to an event organized by his think tank.
The NAACP leader who introduced President Biden in Detroit on Sunday night was previously criticized by the Anti-Defamation League for inviting notorious antisemite Louis Farrakhan to speak at his church, where the controversial minister attacked Jewish people and called them "satanic."
On Sunday night, at the 69th annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner hosted by the Detroit Branch of the NAACP, President Biden stood on stage with Rev. Wendell Anthony, the branch's president, and repeated his message of unity while criticizing former President Trump for being divisive.
On Sunday night, Anthony presented Biden with a lifetime achievement award. Anthony has a history of associations with Farrakhan, who leads the Nation of Islam group, including being criticized by the Anti-Defamation League in 2013 for inviting the minister to speak at his church where he promoted antisemitic rhetoric.
In 2005, 2013, and 2015, Farrakhan spoke at Fellowship Chapel, Anthony's Detroit-based church. The Michigan Chronicle reported in 1994 that Anthony was a guest speaker at the Nation of Islam's 64th annual "Saviour's Day."
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) expressed disappointment with Detroit City Council members and local clergy who met with and embraced the anti-Semitic and racist leader of the Nation of Islam, Louis Farrakhan, during his visit to the city last week, according to a May 2013 press release.
"Rev. Wendell Anthony, President of the Detroit Branch of the NAACP, invited Minister Farrakhan to speak at Fellowship Chapel on May 17 during his visit to Detroit. His speech, attended by prominent city leaders such as U.S. Rep. John Conyers and Detroit City Councilmember JoAnn Watson, contained hateful anti-Semitic canards and open racism. Despite the presence of these leaders, none have publicly condemned Minister Farrakhan's anti-Semitic rhetoric, and several have praised him."
The ADL statement claims that Farrakhan used hateful anti-Semitic language during his speech, referring to "Satanic Jews" and the "Synagogue of Satan" controlling major institutions.
The ADL stated that the individual expressed his admiration for President Barack Obama, but also mentioned that the president "surrounded himself with Satan...members of the Jewish community."
Congressman John Conyers Jr. eventually apologized for attending Farrakhan's speech, stating that the minister made "unacceptable racist, anti-Semitic, and homophobic statements," which he strongly condemns.
Rev. Anthony's introduction of Farrakhan at his church was praised as "phenomenal" by a tweet from "Brother Abdul Qiyam Muhammad," who is a staff writer for the Nation of Islam's Final Call newspaper.
Another follower of Farrakhan posted a quote from Anthony's 2013 Fellowship Chapel appearance, urging people not to be angry with Farrakhan for striking a match, but rather to be angry with themselves for not keeping the fire going.
The same people who own Hollywood, control the press, and media also own reality TV and are the publishers and distributors, and they are part of the Synagogue of Satan, as Farrakhan stated in May 2013 at Fellowship Chapel, according to the ADL.
"You are feeding your people filth, and you are popular in filth, but they pay well. You are Satan's man, and he gives you money, which is what you want. They print all of this next to the Holocaust memorial in Washington. These are not good people, and they have Satanic minds. Whatever God says thou shalt not do, they make sure to tell you it's okay and then publicize it."
In 2004, Farrakhan was a guest speaker at a "Religious leaders' breakfast" hosted by Freedom Institute for Economic, Social Justice and People Empowerment, where he spoke alongside other activists listed on the think tank's website as "the best and brightest in their respective fields."
In 1995, Anthony praised Farrakhan as "the only leader with the vision to envision" the Million Man March, stating that "He is the only man speaking to the moral issues of decay in our community, and that's why people are responding to his call."
Troy Muhammad, a "State Representative for Minister Louis Farrakhan and as Minister of Muhammad Mosque #1," was also present at the dinner. The Facebook post thanked Anthony and Kamilia Landrum, who is the executive director of the NAACP's Detroit branch, for their efforts in organizing the event. The post included a picture of a placard that read "Michigan Representative of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan."
Troy X stated that he exited the building during Biden's introduction and clarified that he was present to back the NAACP.
The White House has been criticized for its connections to Farrakhan's organization, including a left-wing activist who invited one of Farrakhan's top soldiers to visit the White House seven times.
In the fall, a radio interview featuring President Biden was aired on a program that has actively endorsed Farrakhan's teachings.
The White House previously stated that President Biden has consistently condemned Louis Farrakhan and the hateful views he promotes.
Andrew Bates, the newly promoted White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary and Deputy Assistant to the President, previously stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that a Washington, D.C., official who frequently praised Farrakhan wouldn't be invited back to the White House. However, visitor logs later revealed that she had visited the White House at least two more times.
Biden stated in a White House transcript of a campaign stop in Detroit that he not only asked the reverends to pray intensely for him, but also sought their counsel on various matters.
The White House, NAACP, and Anthony's Fellowship Chapel were contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital for a comment, but no immediate response was received.
