McCormick expresses gratitude to the Casey family for their long-standing service as Casey declines to concede.
In 2006, Casey first emerged victorious over Rick Santorum. His father had previously served as governor from 1987 to 1995.
In his victory speech from Pittsburgh on Friday, Pennsylvania Sen.-elect David McCormick expressed gratitude towards now-outgoing Democratic Sen. Bob Casey Jr. and his family for their long-standing commitment to serving the commonwealth.
McCormick stated that Casey and his father, a pro-life moderate governor who served in the 1980s and 1990s, deserve respect for their honorable service. The younger Casey has been in office for three terms, having defeated conservative Senator Rick Santorum in 2006.
McCormick began by expressing his absolute gratitude: "I am grateful to be standing here in this beautiful day in a city that has meant so much to my family. My dad went to college at Pitt, and we had some of the most formative years of our lives here. Three of our girls were born here."
"Gratitude to the amazing campaign team for the honor of serving at such a consequential time for our country."
In nearby Washington, Pa., the hedge fund executive was born and raised, with his father serving as president of Bloomsburg University in Columbia County, on the other side of the commonwealth.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon, won the 2022 primary election to replace retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, with a narrow victory over the incumbent senator.
McCormick stated that he has already conversed with President-elect Trump and is prepared to commence implementing the mogul's agenda in the Senate.
McCormick stated that the recurring message heard was the need for change, as the country was moving in the wrong direction and required strong leadership to revive the economy and control inflation.
"To stop the fentanyl epidemic, we require leadership to secure the border. The most heartbreaking thing we encountered were parents who had lost a child to fentanyl. We learned time and again that the key to Pennsylvania's future is energy."
I don't care about the margin of victory; I will be a senator for all Pennsylvanians.
Additionally, he extended outreach to Governor Josh Shapiro, who is already being speculated about as a potential Democratic presidential candidate in 2028, as well as the GOP-majority state Senate and state House, which Democrats are predicted to retain by a single member.
The Casey campaign has not conceded the race, which has been called for McCormick by the Associated Press. In a release prior to McCormick taking the stage, the Casey campaign highlighted two lawsuits filed by McCormick's team in Philadelphia challenging about 15,000 provisional ballots.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that McCormick's campaign aimed to keep a portion of provisional ballots from voters who had cast now-invalidated mail ballots due to procedural errors, such as non-matching signatures or missing secrecy envelopes.
As of Thursday night, only one other county, Cambria, had a significant number of votes remaining. The undecided race in East Taylor is leaning towards the Democrats, which could give Casey a slight advantage based on past voting trends.
State Rep. Frank Burns will retain his seat, as reported by the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat newspaper at the moment McCormick took the stage.
After the speech, McCormick fielded several queries, including one regarding the lawsuits.
The race between McCormick and his opponent is currently within a 0.5% margin, with McCormick leading by approximately 30,000 votes.
