Liz Cheney concedes Trump's election victory: "We now have a new President-elect."
Adam Kinzinger, a former congressman, recognized the election outcome.
On Wednesday, former Rep. Liz Cheney acknowledged the victory of former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election, stating on X that the country now has a new President-elect.
Cheney, a vocal critic of Trump who backed Vice President Harris in the election, stated that Americans must accept the outcome.
Cheney stated in her post that our nation's democratic system was functioning last night and we now have a new President-elect. Despite personal preferences, all Americans must accept the election results.
As citizens of the greatest nation on earth, we now have a special responsibility to support and defend our Constitution, preserve the rule of law, and ensure that our institutions hold over the coming four years. Citizens across this country, our courts, members of the press, and those serving in our federal, state, and local governments must now be the guardrails of democracy.
Cheney served on the House Select Committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, after being one of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach then-President Donald Trump.
Trump and Cheney had both been excoriating each other.
She was labeled as "a very dumb individual" and "a radical war hawk" by Trump.
Trump was criticized by Cheney, who wrote on X, "Our country and freedom cannot be trusted to a petty, vindictive, cruel, and unstable man who desires to be a tyrant."
Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger also acknowledged the election outcome.
Kinzinger tweeted that although the battle was lost last night, the mission continues. We must now move on, regroup, and prepare for the next one.
Like Cheney, Kinzinger was one of the House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after the Capitol riot. He also served on the House Select Committee formed to investigate the incident and he supported Harris during the 2024 presidential race.
