Large numbers of Chinese, Jordanian, and Turkish illegal immigrants are being caught at the southern border.
The number of Chinese individuals entering the country unlawfully has drastically increased in recent years.
In May, over 3,500 Chinese nationals were found crossing the southern border illegally, along with hundreds of Jordanian, Turkish, and Mauritanian nationals, according to CBP sources who spoke to Planet Chronicle.
In recent months, the San Diego Sector has become a top border-crossing point, with 98% of those encountered being found there, despite a decrease in crossings across the border.
In Arizona, the Tucson Sector had the highest number of illegal encounters, with over 33,000, while San Diego had the second-highest number, with over 32,000.
Over 770 Jordanians, 670 Turks, and 500 Mauritanians illegally crossed into the San Diego sector in May, showcasing the global scope of the U.S. migrant crisis, which has surpassed the Western Hemisphere.
Last month, two Jordanian nationals were arrested for attempting to breach Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia. One of them had crossed into the U.S. illegally in April and had then been released into the interior of the U.S.
The number of Chinese nationals has significantly increased since 2021. In FY 2022, there were 1,970 encounters, and in FY 2023, there were over 24,000 encounters. So far this fiscal year, there have been over 24,200 encounters.
In May, Border Patrol apprehended approximately 118,000 migrants who had crossed the U.S. illegally, with over 6,300 of them being "special interest aliens" from countries with potential national security concerns.
The ongoing crisis at the border poses a significant challenge to President Biden's re-election campaign, with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stating that some migrants are attempting to exploit the U.S. asylum system.
"Mayorkas stated to CBS News that while not everyone tries to manipulate the system, some people do, and they address it accordingly."
Congress has been called upon by the administration to make changes, specifically with regards to the bipartisan Senate bill. Additionally, the administration has highlighted the fact that since May 2023, over 720,000 illegal immigrants have been removed or returned, which is more than in any full fiscal year since 2011.
In the interview, Mayorkas stated that the recent bipartisan border security proposal, which did not receive support in the Senate, would have given us more resources to handle those who try to exploit the system.
The administration's policies, including the rollback of Trump-era measures such as wall construction and MPP, have been criticized by Republicans. In response, they have passed legislation in the House that restricts asylum claims and reinstates border wall construction. However, this legislation has not yet been considered by the Senate.
