Klobuchar receives criticism over 'Community Note' on X after backlash from Jan 6 claim about 'killed' officer: "Just sick"
An X 'Community Note' responded to Klobuchar's post, stating that no officers were killed.
Amy Klobuchar, a Minnesota Democrat senator, is facing criticism from both users and the platform regarding her post about the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riot, where she stated that police officers were "injured and killed."
""Four years ago, a violent mob interrupted the electoral vote certification, resulting in the injury and death of police officers. Our democracy was at risk, and I knew we had to complete the count, which we did in the early hours of January 7th," Klobuchar posted on X on Tuesday."
The "Community Note" by X stated that no officers were killed in that post.
"The medical examiner determined that Sicknick's death was due to natural causes, meaning that a disease was the sole cause of death. If an injury accelerated death, the manner of death would not be considered natural. Four other officers took their own lives within a time frame of days to months following Sicknick's death."
Dana Loesch, a conservative commentator, posted on X that no police officers were killed.
"Red State writer Bonchie posted that no police officers were killed."
"Why is it acceptable for politicians to continually lie about this?" Bonchie added. "Even if you believe J6 was the worst thing ever, how does that justify saying officers were killed? It's been four years and fact-checkers still haven't touched this."
"It is disgusting to see people falsify information about who was killed," Mollie Hemingway, Federalist Editor-in-Chief, wrote on X. "A Trump supporter was shot and killed, but no police officers were killed. As someone of your standing, you should not be brazenly lying about this. It's just sick."
Chris Barron, President of Right Turn Strategies, should be censured for this lie.
"Federalist Election Correspondent Brianna Lyman posted on X that not a single officer was killed on Jan 6. However, two officers died by suicide in the weeks following, and two other officers who were not present at the time of the protest later died by suicide. These suicides could not directly be tied to J6."
"Ashli Babbitt, a Trump supporter, was the only person killed during the January 6th protests, according to conservative writer Ben Kew on X."
Klobuchar's office did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
On the day following his confrontation with rioters on Jan. 6, U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick passed away due to natural causes, as determined by Washington's chief medical examiner.
"The USCP acknowledges the District of Columbia's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's findings that Officer Brian Sicknick passed away due to natural causes. However, this does not alter the fact that he bravely sacrificed his life while defending Congress and the Capitol."
In 2021, approximately 140 police officers were reported to have been injured during the riot, as testified by law enforcement officials.
