Key precincts in battleground states have extended polling hours: What to expect
At least three states have altered their polling hours.
On Tuesday, several battleground states extended the hours of polling sites due to unexpected wait times, technical issues, and other problems faced by voters in crucial precincts.
Here's a rundown of the states and precincts impacted so far.
Pennsylvania
In Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, local election officials announced that voters will have until 9:30 p.m. to cast their ballots, despite state polling locations closing at 8 p.m.
Provisional ballots will be used for voters who get in line after 8 p.m., while those who arrive before that time will vote in the county's regular voting system, officials stated.
On Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Department of State declared a two-hour extension of polling hours in Cambria County due to a "software malfunction" that slowed down the scanning of ballots in the precinct.
Provisional ballots will be used for any votes cast after 8 p.m. in Cambria County, while the voting deadline is extended until 10 p.m.
North Carolina
In Burke and Wilson counties, North Carolina election officials extended voting hours by 30 minutes, allowing voters until 8 p.m. to cast their ballots, which is longer than the 7:30 p.m. deadline in the rest of the state.
Georgia
In addition to Georgia, the Atlanta-area precincts of Cobb, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties also announced an extension for voters.
Due to several "non-credible" bomb threats, two polling sites in Fulton County were evacuated earlier Tuesday. As a result, county officials applied for an application to extend voting hours through 7:30 p.m.
Officials announced that voters at a polling location in Gwinnett County, which was also the target of a bomb threat, will have until 8 p.m. to cast their ballots.
