Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, is proposing a bill to relocate nearly a third of the federal workforce from Washington, D.C., in an effort to decentralize the federal government.

The bill that Ernst is leading is called the "Decentralizing and Re-organizing Agency Infrastructure Nationwide To Harness Efficient Services, Workforce Administration, and Management Practices Act," or DRAIN THE SWAMP.

The measure would allow the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to move 30% of federal employees from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to other locations.

The federal workers currently working remotely in the capital would be required to work in person 100% of the time.

The OMB would be instructed to sell the excess office space resulting from relocations under her bill.

"Bureaucrats have been found to be doing everything except their job during work hours, according to Ernst. In a statement, he revealed that federal employees have shown no desire to work in Washington. To grant their wish, Ernst is working to move bureaucrats beyond the D.C. beltway and remind public servants of their true purpose."

"We can enhance government services for all Americans and offer taxpayers an additional Christmas present by selling off underutilized and costly office buildings."

Ernst, a longtime investigator of federal government agencies and programs, is prepared to implement specific ideas for the president-elect, Donald Trump, with the announcement of DOGE.

Rep. Aaron Bean, R-Fla., a co-leader of the House's DOGE caucus, is introducing companion legislation.

In Crazy Town, the swamp is dense and extensive, and my mission is to drain it. It is imperative that Washington is reminded of our obligation to serve the American people. I am honored to collaborate with Senator Ernst to ensure that the government operates for the benefit of the people, not the other way around.

In November, Trump announced that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would lead a proposed advisory board aimed at eliminating government waste.

"These two Americans will help my Administration eliminate bureaucracy, reduce regulations, cut unnecessary spending, and streamline federal agencies, which is crucial to the 'Save America' movement," he stated.

In the House and Senate, caucuses were established, with Reps. Aaron Bean, R-Fla., and Pete Sessions, R-Texas, leading the proceedings in the House, while Ernst and Blake Moore, R-Utah, led the Senate caucuses.

In both chambers, Republicans have begun introducing legislation to achieve the objectives of DOGE.
