John Lee, backed by Trump, wins GOP primary in competitive Nevada House race.
David Flippo, an Air Force veteran, was defeated by Lee.
John Lee, the former mayor of North Las Vegas, has won the Republican primary for Nevada's 4th Congressional District and will compete against incumbent Democrat Rep. Steven Horsford in the November general election.
The Associated Press called the race, with Air Force veteran David Flippo trailing behind Lee, who was backed by former President Donald Trump.
Trump's endorsement, given less than two weeks before the primary, may have been enough to give Lee the chance to win a competitive House seat for Republicans this year.
From 1996 to 2022, Lee held various political positions in North Las Vegas, including serving as mayor from 2013-2022, and also as a senator from 2004-2012 and an assembly member from 2002-2004.
The House of Representatives currently has a narrow 218-213 Republican majority, which is smaller than after the 2022 midterm elections due to resignations and an expulsion.
The race for Nevada's 4th Congressional District is predicted to favor the Democrats, according to elections analysts.
