According to Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., the Margate Police Department shared information with him about a potential plan to assassinate him.
The congressman, who won re-election this week, was informed by authorities of the news a day before the election.
On the day before the election, I received a notification from the Margate Police Department, which is located in my Congressional District, about a possible threat on my life. The suspect in question was apprehended near my residence; he is a former convict who was found in possession of a rifle, a suppressor, and body armor.
The lawmaker discovered a manifesto that contained antisemitic language and only his name on the "target" list. He did not disclose any other details as he did not want to interfere with an ongoing investigation.
"This is unacceptable," Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., tweeted in response to Moskowitz's statement about the potential plot. "No one should harm Jared!"
The Margate Police Department arrested 41-year-old John Lapinski in connection with a potential murder plot against Moskowitz, as revealed by Maj. Alain Banatte in a press release to Planet Chronicle Digital.
The Margate Police Department arrested John Lapinski, DOB 07/23/83, a Margate resident, on November 2, 2024, for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and other firearms-related charges, according to the release.
The Margate Police Department enlisted the help of the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) during the investigation.
The Margate Police Department will not provide further comment on the ongoing investigation, as it is still active and the lead agency is the ATF.
