In Aurora, Colorado, five migrants were detained following a home invasion that may be linked to a violent Venezuelan gang.
A Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, is suspected of having 16 members among the migrants, according to an ICE official who spoke to Planet Chronicle Digital.
Five more migrants have been detained by Aurora, Colorado police in connection with an early Tuesday morning home invasion and kidnapping that involved an armed attack.
The number of migrants detained in the incident has reached 19, with two victims being beaten, bound, and kidnapped in a Denver suburb.
An ICE spokesperson informed Planet Chronicle Digital that 16 individuals in custody are Venezuelan nationals who entered the US unauthorized and are suspected of being associated with the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.
The Tren de Aragua, or TdA, is a violent international criminal organization that has been terrorizing Aurora residents for over a year.
The 16 suspects will stay in ICE custody until their removal proceedings or hearings before an immigration judge.
The home invasion was a gang incident, according to Aurora Police Department Chief Todd Chamberlain.
The Aurora Police Department's representative, Joe Moylan, informed Planet Chronicle Digital that the police are still working to identify the suspects and have not yet officially confirmed whether the incident was gang-related.
On Tuesday at 2:30 a.m., the police were summoned to The Edge at Lowry Apartments in Aurora due to a reported armed home invasion where victims were assaulted and transported to another apartment within the complex.
A man among the victims received a stab wound but is expected to recover. Both victims are still receiving medical attention at the hospital.
Aurora police served an additional warrant at the apartment complex late Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the detention of five more migrants for questioning. Police are collaborating with federal authorities, including Homeland Security Investigators, to identify those involved.
The Aurora police chief is expected to provide more information about the incident in a future press conference.
According to Roger Hudson, a city council member in Castle Pines, Colorado, who has spoken with the apartment owner, most people in the area believe Tren de Aragua is responsible for the incident. In recent months, the gang has grown "more powerful, more dangerous, and more desperate," he stated.
Hudson criticized the sanctuary policies implemented in Colorado and Denver, arguing that they hinder state and local law enforcement's ability to safeguard Coloradans from individuals like TdA.
"These policies endanger our communities' safety," he stated. "This is a violation of law and order in the West, and we cannot tolerate it. This is not the identity of our country or state."
